What Planet Is This?

It's not the weird headlines in the current Drudge Report that will weird you out. It's the serious ones.

I already posted the blog piece I prepared for today. Then I took a peek at The Drudge Report, which is a frequent stop for me. There's often a hint of the tabloid spirit there, but what weirded me out today is not frivolous tabloidy fluff. It was the serious news. Here's a selection of headlines, which may not still be there when you look:

• "NYT: THE BLIZZARDS ARE FROM THE WARMING" -- That is, global warming is causing global cooling, or something like that.
• "Obama Admin wants to track cellphones; 'No reasonable expectation of privacy'..." -- Remember when liberals were reliably pro-privacy, like when they found out we were eavesdropping on terrorists' phone calls?
• "CNN commentator wants Obama to go 'gangsta'..." -- As recently as last week, wouldn't this have been racist? Of the CNN commentator, I mean?
• "[Obama] Open to tax hikes on middle class..." -- The weird thing is not that he's open to doing it, but that he's open to mentioning it in public.
• "Florida schools giving away $350,000 worth of IPods -- using Stimulus Money..." -- It's a good thing Mr. Proxmire and the original Golden Fleece Award are things of the past. There wouldn't be enough golden fleece in the world to suit our time.
• "Russia nabs meteorite smuggling ring..." -- Smuggling meteorites for a living . . . Wow.

But no one can weird us out on a regular basis like Vice President Joe Biden . . .

• "Biden: Iraq one of Obama's 'great achievements'..." -- Even the Big Media Acronyms had trouble swallowing this one.

. . . Which brings me back to the original question and my title: What planet is this?
