Help Me Evaluate Prof. Gingrich's Threats

In a recent speech, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich listed five major threat's to the United States' future. See if you agree. In fact, tell me whether you agree.

The other day, former House Speaker and possible 2008 presidential candidate Newt Gingrich listed what he evaluates as the five current major threats to the United States' future. (I'm indebted to John McCaslin's column for the account.) They are: 

• terrorism and rogue governments
• loss of patriotism among Americans
• economic decline due to poor math and science education
• financial burdens from Social Security and Medicare
• the disappearance of God in everyday life

I'm not aware that these five are in any particular order, in Gingrich's mind. I assume the last is a political statement, not a personal theological lament.

Believe it or not, I'm interested in your opinion. Use the comment link at the end of this article to tell me

1. Which of the five you think really are serious threats;
2. Which of the five you think is the most serious threat;
3. The one most serious threat he missed, if you have one.

Changing the subject . . .

Lesson learned this week: If you're ever a Republican vice president, and you accidentally shoot someone in a quail hunting accident, call a press conference before you call 9-1-1, or you'll be accused of a cover-up. And don't be surprised if a lot of folks (adults, but not grown-ups) hope the victim will die, just to do you political harm.
