New to Me: Joel on Software

In my professional guise as a computer programmer, I've been enjoying lately a blog I'm surprised I didn't notice sooner: JoelOnSoftware.com. This guy is smart. In terms of professional credentials, his resume includes being on the team which created Microsoft Excel, arguably that company's most successful and most admirable product ever. He has his own company now.

Joel thinks well, and he writes well, too. (These twin virtues are closely related but not inseparable.) Here's an example of both. Its connection to the frequent themes of my blog is that here is an instance where the numbers don't necessarily mean what they appear to mean. You gotta think about the numbers, not just imbibe or spout them. Read about hiring the "top one percent."
