Tuesday, May 24, 2005As I Was Saying . . .Sunday's Provo Daily Herald included an article about a coalition of volunteers and a developer that wants to build a YMCA on the south side of American Fork. The proposed timetable is about 18 months, and a swimming pool will likely be included. If that's how it works out, then within two years a bolder, more creative American Fork City could close down its recreation center, perhaps including even the swimming pool, and use the surplus land for another soccer or baseball field and the surplus money for some essential service. More likely, however, some of the City's recreational clientele will head for the YMCA, and the City will simply have to subsidize its own rec center more than it does now, because its leaders wouldn't want to rile the recreation lobby.
