Hoo-da Thunkit?

Just when you think you've seen everything . . . (I have never thought that myself. It's an expression.)

Which is the bigger head-scratcher?

  • Hezbollah says they are prepared for "open war" with Israel. My jaw drops and my head shakes slowly in disbelief at the report. It's as if they never bothered to study the Six Day War (1967) or the Yom Kippur War (1973), in which Israel made short work of several Arab armies. Even people I know inside the US military will tell you we're only second-best at a lot of significant military things. In a number of essential ways (size not among them), Israel's armed forces are more proficient even than ours -- and, arguably, more motivated. Sane people don't pick gunfights with Israel.
  • Over the years filmmaker Oliver Stone has earned his reputation for not letting actual history stand in the way of a good conspiracy theory or a left-leaning political agenda. Yet now we have even conservatives calling his new film, World Trade Center, "a world-class movie." Cal Thomas is one example. He raves, "It is one of the greatest pro-American, pro-family, pro-faith, pro-male, flag-waving, God Bless America films you will ever see." It will be in theaters beginning August 9.

It's a strange, strange world. What's next? Will some prominent Democrat (besides Joe Lieberman) say something almost kind about President Bush without being purged from the Party?
