Entirely Personal: LBB Fights Back

Purely personal notes on Life Beyond the Blog temporarily crowding out blogging.

I try not to obscure the fact that there's an actual person behind the blogging persona.

Since said actual person is not among the handful of bloggers who make a living at it, Life Beyond the Blog (LBB) all too easily crowds out blogging sometimes, as it has lately.

I just posted last Saturday's weekly list of excellent readings, three days later than I prefer. (I dated it Saturday, anyway, to avoid confusing at least myself.)

Not that having a life is a bad thing.

Missing a day of work midweek due to illness put me in catch-up mode. Then I spent eight hours on the job Saturday, and four more preparing for Sunday. Sandwiched somewhere in there was a Halloween party.

Sunday is no day of rest for an LDS bishop, but it's usually 11 or 12 hours, not 15 as it was this time. Leadership meetings in which I play a major role, a male quartet rehearsal, the usual worship services -- during which, somewhat unusually, I sang in one meeting and taught a lesson in another -- then interviews, choir practice, more interviews, a hurried hour trying to put the finishing touches on a fireside speech, 20 minutes at home for dinner, then speaking at a fireside -- nothing to do with politics, of course -- followed by more interviews, and finally home in a semi-catatonic state. ("Tell me your name again? And you say we have children together?") It sometimes seems a high price to pay for not being an atheist, but it's worth it in some ways I don't have any trouble remembering when I'm fully conscious.

On Monday I worked from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, with a couple of breaks which were never intended or expected to be restful. (The most relaxing involved a flu shot.) Much of Monday night was spent with an ailing toddler. Then back to the office early this morning . . . Employment is a blessing, too; that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I spent this evening spent taking some children (two of my own, one other) trick-or-treating. Then, for the first time in days, I had both time and energy for blogging.

Small wonder that I don't watch much television any more.

But back to work. There's a significant election looming and much to be said before then. The timing may force me to be briefer than I intended to be on some issues, but that may be a good thing.

Stay tuned.
